Outcomer for PolicyCenter

Your underwriters and policy administrators ask how to do it in PolicyCenter. Outcomer shows them.

Underwriters and policy administrators can ask how to do a task in Guidewire PolicyCenter and see each step on their own screen. The steps follow your own underwriting procedures, referral rules and set-up.

How the free trial works

We check every step works before your staff see it.

Outcomer isn’t a library of ready-made PolicyCenter guides. We build your guides from your own procedures, on your own PolicyCenter set-up, and test each one before your staff use it.

Classroom training cannot cover every referral or policy change. Outcomer answers your team's questions while they work in PolicyCenter, using your own underwriting procedures.

Support questions

Questions your staff ask about PolicyCenter

General answers for the standard product. Your own set-up may differ, and that’s what Outcomer follows.

Why does PolicyCenter say underwriting approval is needed before I can bind?

When a transaction meets one of your firm's underwriting rules, PolicyCenter raises an underwriting issue. Issues show on the Risk Analysis screen after you quote, and on the Issues that block Binding screen after you click Bind. Someone with enough authority must approve the issue before the policy can be bound. Your rules and authority levels are set by your firm, so your set-up may differ.

How do I send an underwriting issue to someone who can approve it?

On the Risk Analysis screen, open the Underwriting Issues tab and click Request Approval. This creates an activity for another user, such as an underwriter, to review and approve the issues.

Why can nobody approve this issue?

Validation problems, such as missing data, cannot be approved by anyone. Correct the data instead. If the condition no longer applies, PolicyCenter removes the issue at the next checking point. Authority issues are different: they can be approved by someone with enough authority.

Why can't I edit the policy?

The policy may have been locked for underwriting review with Lock for Review. While it is locked, the policy cannot be edited until the lock is released. Ask the underwriter reviewing it, or check who holds the lock.

What do the symbols after an underwriting issue name mean?

An asterisk (*) means the issue can be approved automatically. A § sign means the issue varies over the policy period, and (§) means it varies but does not block. A rejected issue stops the transaction passing any blocking point.

Why has an approval disappeared after I changed the policy?

Each approval has an edit setting and a duration. If a change makes the approval invalid and the approval does not allow edits, it is removed and the issue needs approving again. Approvals can also expire, for example at the next change or the end of the term. Your firm sets these defaults, so your set-up may differ.

What is the difference between Bind Only and Issue Policy?

At the end of a submission, under Bind Options, Bind Only binds the policy but does not issue it. Issue Policy binds the policy, generates the billing information and issues it.

How do I make a mid-term change to a policy?

Open the policy and choose Change Policy from the Actions menu. Set the effective date, add a description, and make the changes. Check Policy Review, then click Quote to requote. When the quote is right, click Issue Policy to bind and issue the change.

Can I change the effective date of a policy change?

Yes, while the change is not yet bound, through the Actions menu. Once it is bound and issued, the date can no longer be edited. Changing the date invalidates every quote on the change, so you must requote. Check whether any underwriting issues still apply on the new date.

Should I choose Cancel Now or Schedule Cancellation?

Cancel Now cannot be rescinded. To undo it, you would have to reinstate the policy. Schedule Cancellation sets the cancellation up but lets you rescind it before its effective date. Check which your procedure requires for the reason you are using.

Why can't I set an earlier cancellation date?

PolicyCenter defaults to the earliest allowable date for the cancellation reason you chose. The available reasons depend on whether the source is the insured or the insurer, and some combinations also set the refund method. Your firm's rules decide these defaults, so your set-up may differ.

I copied a submission. Why does it need quoting and approving again?

Copying keeps the policy details, producer, underwriting company and dates, but not the pre-qualification status, underwriting approvals or any financial information. The copy starts in Draft, so you must quote it again before binding.

If your underwriters and policy administrators ask questions like these every week, Outcomer answers them on their own screen, using your own PolicyCenter set-up and procedures.
